![]() It just came down to the ball being more effective with a bit more axis rotation. A bit of a surprise seeing the difference between Sean and Tyler isn’t that significant to see such a difference in ball motion. There are some nice shots in there but there is maybe a bit too much precision needed in terms of where you come out of the pattern to be usable on this particular condition. It’s too strong to start up in the outside oil but with a little room, it was touch and go. The Zen U looked much more “urethane” than “plus”. His roll is a touch more forward than Tyler and you can kind of see the difference it makes. I mean yes you can see it has the clear urethane characteristics but at the same time the speed of responsiveness let’s you know it’s amped up a bit. But giving it too much room and it won’t work. Honestly it reminded me a bit of some of those huge reactive balls that dig and sometimes the pattern is too light. If he missed out, the ball actually overreacted. He could miss in but tended to get a bit of a flat hit. He is able to get into the 3rd arrow and beyond out to 7 or 8 and wham. Tyler’s test here probably demonstrates all the best characteristics of the Zen U. To be fair I enjoyed the Hot Cell but I digress. Sometimes too much of a good thing is simply too much, ala Hot Cell. The standard Zen core would create a ton of flare which would definitely give you a different ball. The idea is to give you a urethane ball that has the control of urethane but a bit more responsiveness while putting in a control shape core. In this iteration, 900 Global goes with a pretty strong cover with the same shape Zen core but with a much lower differential. So manufacturers will continue tweaking urethane to give us varied reactions. I don’t have to tell you my feeling on urethane but as we all know it’s here to stay. The 900 Global Zen U uses the Meditate LD symmetric core inside the s35 Urethane+ coverstock. Your driller will alter the shape to suit your game.” “Keep in mind that coverstock accounts for 70% of ball reaction, but the core creates the dynamic shape of the reaction. Although the Zen U harkens back to the nostalgic days when urethane was simple Black color and yellow script, it’s shape is more than that.Ĭheck out our friends Jeff Miller and Ron Hoppe at Haley’s Pro Shop for world class drilling and coaching! Otherwise, the ball would deflect to leave a 10-pin. It was not surprising, but it was a little more sensitive than for me. Perhaps Sean’s baseline speed is a little higher than mine. The ball turns the corner well as he pushes the friction to the fourth arrow. We both seem to find a good balance with Zen.īryan is throwing the 900 Global Zen. The ball was good and he started just outside the 2nd arrow. He had good pocket control, but he did move in a few boards to help the ball store more energy. He can sometimes make the balls not hit when he does this. Here we go with another urethane ball. He saw a similar reaction to the benchmark, with plenty of room for adjustments. He was between the 2nd and 4th Arrow. He tried many angles of attack. The 2nd arrow, with low axis rotation, looked great. The ball will respond if he pushes on the friction from that direction, sometimes a little too much. He had to use friction when he was closer to the third arrow. You can also see a more dominant rev dominant release. To keep it a bit more manageable, I am trying to control the rotation of the axis. Although the ball is responsive, it’s not impossible to control. The Zen is such an attractive ball. I tried a few 2-handed shots and I am still learning how to speed up so that the ball is more responsive. The Radical Zing Hybrid was the last ball that I dropped in the middle control slot of my bag. The ball behaves the same, but it actually gave me more space. The Zen was the new benchmark because I could move left and right without losing hits so quickly. Although it might seem odd to speak of a pearl, it proves that these designations are irrelevant. It is all about how the ball behaves. However, it does start revving up before it transitions, which gives it a smoother appearance and makes it very easy to read. Although the transitions aren’t very sharp, I find them easily distinguishable as it moves down the lane. It felt like a ball with a large range of useability. It works well when it is thrown in the usual house breakpoint. It will respond to my drying and can be thrown in the dryer. It can be pulled and it will sit. It gave me plenty of space. I was also able to move many boards before the board started to hit weakly. We do have a ball that is clean as you would expect from 1500 grit polish.
